The beauty of Arashiyama
Have you ever visited Arashiyama before? If not, this will be one of the most enjoyable spots you’ll ever find! Love at first sight. That’s how I describe Arashiyama. The biggest reason why Arashiyama is one of the most enjoyable spots is because the entire place is filled with number of shrines, temples and shops selling food and souvenirs. You’ll come across them when walking around Arashiyama.
Arashiyama is particularly popular during the cherry blossom and fall colors. (Pictures below)
Trees will turn red in mid to end November.
Bamboo Grove Road
Also, the green bamboo grove road is definitely one of the spots you should walk along. It might look like an endless road extending its arm in every direction.
There is nothing like a relaxing stroll through this road.
Location: About 20 minutes on foot (about 1.5 km) to the northwest of Arashiyama Station
Rickshaws are highly recommended to take a leisurely ride for sightseeing in Arashiyama. This is the traditional method of transportation in the Meiji and Taisho periods, which is why riding a rickshaw has become popular.
Rickshaws have a 2 person seating capacity. These man-powered excursion carry you guys on a course from the Togetsu bridge to the Nonomiya shrine and Sagano Bamboo Grove. Those men also act as guides, providing a relaxed tour where you can enjoy Arashiyama!
Cost: One passenger 2000 yen
two passengers 3000 yen (per leg)
30 minute reservation course: One passenger 5000 yen, two passengers 8000 yen
Hozu River Whitewater Excursions
A little unknown spot in Arashiyama that people tend to miss out is the Hozu River Whitewater. The best parts of this trip are the views of the beautiful forested river banks of the Hozu Valley and some amazingly shaped rocks. Especially during the fall, some of the leaves turn into red that’ll even make the views better!
Hours: Seven trips between 9:00 am and 3:30 pm (from December 1 to March 9, four trips by heated boat between 10:00 am and 2:30 pm) additional trips may be added on weekends and holidays.
Closed: September 9 and December 29 to January 4
Tickets: Adults 3900 yen, children 2500 yen
Other than those spots, there is also a foot spa inside of Arashiyama station with only 150 yen. It’ll be very nice to rest your foot after long walk from exploring Arashiyama!
Those are the spots I would highly recommend you to visit!Tags: Arashiyama, fall, four season, Spring
